​INTREPID TRAVELLING TROUPE

The Intrepid Travelling Troupe (ITT) is a group that came together in the late 1990s  to raise funds for charity through a theatrical setting. Its first melodramatic musical was in 1999 and to date there have been 15 most entertaining productions. ITT have now raised well over one million dollars for the Oncology Treatment Centre at Westmead Children’s Hospital as well as (up until 2016) Josephite Community Aid.

 

The money raised for the Oncology Treatment Centre has provided much needed support for the children in the form of wheelchairs, updated treatment rooms, entertainment resources and brighter surroundings  -  ITT was instrumental in arranging fabulous painted murals in the clinic hallways and providing televisions with an abundance of movies and games.  All efforts were aimed at making the cancer treatment journey a little bit easier for both patients and their families.

 

Since 2016, ITT fund-raising efforts have been focused on developing and supporting a Child Life Assistant position in the Oncology Treatment Centre and continues to do so in its new home, the Bodman Cancer Centre Day Unit of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.  The Child Life Assistant position 

co-ordinates and plans activities for the kids attending the Day Unit. It involves a coordinator with a kind disposition and special skills who can provide unique play sessions/entertainment/craft /’theme’ days and lots more. This position is a valuable asset and to date has been fully funded by ITT.

 

Angelica, indeed an angel, has held the child life assistant position for many years and previously been a winner of the State award for Allied Health Assistant of the year.  She has had a direct impact on the treatment journey of so many young patients and the staff and parents sing her praises.  

 

ITT continues to focus on supporting and maintaining this position. This year will see a shift in the style of its performance – a delightful production of a children’s Christmas play! Its aim remains the same - to entertain theatre goers from ages 3 to 103 and to raise funds for this vital position in the Bodman Cancer Centre Day Unit of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
